No prior knowledge or experience necessary, Matthew is here to help and give you full ‘hands on’ step by step experience in a real workshop environment. All materials, tools and safety equipment will be provided. Students can use their own brushes / sculpting tools if they already have them. At the end of each course, all students will get to keep their own moulds. You will not only learn technical and creative skills but will get a true insight into the world of special makeup effects within the film industry.

BEGINNERS PROSTHETICS WEEKEND COURSE (2 days)

CUTS, WOUNDS, BULLET HOLES AND ABRASIONS WORKSHOP (CREATED IN PROSTHETIC GRADE GELATINE)

Sculpting and moulding various prosthetic wounds, cuts and abrasions on a flat surface, looking at form, texture and real reference material. Creating a silicone negative mould of the sculpts, how to heat and intrinsically colour gelatine, the use of flock, ‘running’ the moulds in gelatine, de-moulding, application, colouration / blending and realistically dressing the wounds with a variety of blood products. Safe removal.

PROSTHETIC WOUND APPLICATION AND COLOURATION WORKSHOP (GENERIC FLAT MOULDED ENCAPSULATED SILICONE AND GELATINE APPLIANCES PROVIDED)

Various sized generic wounds provided in both encapsulated silicone and gelatine. How to apply, colour / blend and dress realistically using a variety of blood products. Safe removal.

BEGINNERS PROSTHETIC WEEKDAY COURSE (2 days)

CREATING AND APPLYING ‘BONDO’ PROSTHETICS WORKSHOP

A step by step guide to sculpting, moulding and applying various small prosthetic ‘Bondo’ / prosthetic transfer material pieces from clear silicone moulds (wounds, scars, cuts etc).

Skin preparation, colouration and safe removal.

1 WEEK COURSE (5 days)

CUTS, WOUNDS, BULLET HOLES AND ABRASIONS WORKSHOP

(IN ENCAPSULATED SILICONE).

Sculpting various wounds on a flat surface, looking at real reference material; creating silicone negative moulds of your sculpts, prepping the moulds, air-brushing the moulds with cap-plastic, mixing silicone with ‘deadener’ to soften the prosthetic pieces. Learning how to intrinsically colour silicone and the use of flock, filling the moulds, airbrushing cap plastic on top to create silicone encapsulated prosthetic appliances. Application, colouration / blending, realistically dressing the prosthetic wounds with a variety of blood products. Safe removal.

1 WEEK COURSE (5 days)

GELATINE NOSE WORKSHOP

This course includes lifecasting the face safely and efficiently, making a fiberglass core mould, sculpting a nose, paying close attention to form and skin texture, looking at real reference, eliminating ‘under cuts’, how to create the ‘cutting edge’, making a fiberglass negative, how to heat and intrinsically colour gelatine, the use of flock, injecting the two piece fiberglass nose mould with hot gelatine, de-moulding, application and colouration / blending. Safe removal.

2 WEEK COURSE (10 days)

‘ROTTING CORPSE’ PROSTHETIC MAKEUP WORKSHOP (ENCAPSULATED SILICONE)

This course includes life-casting the face safely and efficiently, filling the negative with plaster, sculpting the ‘rotting corpse’ look over the lifecast, looking closely at form and skin texture, using real reference material, breaking the sculpt up into various sections. ‘Floating off’ the sections and transferring onto a flat surface, moulding in silicone and running the prosthetic pieces in encapsulated silicone, using ‘deadener’ to soften the pieces, application and colouration / blending / dressing. Safe removal.
